14. Lynn's Day - Fun at Home, in the Cemetery, and Kayaks below!

When John takes off on his biking adventures it starts a different kind of day for me - I had laundry to do, which the washer takes 2 1/2 hours to wash, and we dried them on outside porch line today. Wahoo!! I  have a  couple of books I have been reading which I love just sitting with no schedule and the sound of the river running by our home for our stay in Quillan. I  also watched a movie on Netflix which John would have hated, lol…. I follow his journey along on Strava to see where he  is  getting to and know where  I might be driving to get him home….its never been necessary but I like knowing I could if needed ! I decided to get lunch literally right next door at Le Palace on the river - a hamburger with fries and a Diet Coke LOL ... well, sometimes you just gotta have a burger with fries :) It was funny that two older British ladies were next to me talking about their boyfriends in pretty graphic terms. I suppose they didn’t think I’d follow their conversations as I had only been speaking French with the waitress! Is the burger the same?  Non!! but still pretty good.

When John returned from his ride - he wrote on the blog about his day while I snoozed ( it's such a relaxing place with comfortable couch and perfect temperature with windows wide open). Later, outside the same room, we got a surprise described better later!

I have always loved French cemeteries so we visited the very large one here in Quillan this afternoon…amazing headstones and such an array of memories on display…because we are close to Spain, quite a few families have Spanish names which we weren’t expecting. Many references to wars the dead had fought in, and pictures, even of them participating in various sports. See the cyclist marker in photos. The old section of the cemetery had huge plane trees above the graves, and it was fairly easy to see which sections were oldest. Paul Houlihan, this part of our day was for you!

Many of the graves are spotlessly maintained, with mementoes, photos, flowers, etc placed on top

Then John and I went for a drive to see some of the route he takes on his bike coming back into Quillan…and had adventures driving on such small roads and getting around obstacles….

We finished our day with Dames Blanches ice cream sundaes (John asked for extra chocolate, lol) at the Le Palace. Then the icing on the day was when I looked out our window to open it wider and there were kayakers below coming down the Aude whitewater beneath us!!!! Wow, what an ending to a fun stress free day :)

They could tell we were not serious drinkers when we just ordered ice cream sundaes and water!

Pretty cool, right outside our window this evening!
